Medieval Islamic Hand Grenade – Fire Pot

Medieval Islamic Hand Grenade
This hand grenade or fire pot as it was known was found in the Middle East.

Made from a ceramic like material. Size 4 1/2″ x 3″ inches.

These fire pots were widely used during the Crusades. They would be filled with Naptha, a paraffin like fluid and a wick inserted into the spout, the wick would then be lit and thrown at the strongholds or castles etc. The fluid inside the fire pot would ignite on impact causing the flame to spread.
