Fossilised Tree Trunk.
This tree trunk has been completely transitioned to stone by the process of Permineralization. All the organic material has been replaced with minerals (mostly Silicate such as Quartz) The petrification occurs underground when it becomes buried beneath sediment or volcanic ash.

 

The fossilisation quartz is colourless but when contaminants are added to the process the crystals take on other tints. The following list are the elements and relating colour hues. Carbon – Black: Cobolt – Green or Blue: Chromium – Green or Blue: Copper – Green or Blue: Iron Oxides – Red, Brown and Yellow: Manganese – Pink or Orange: Manganese Oxides – Blackish Yellow:
