An Anemometer.
This anemometer was made by Messrs John Davis & Sons of Derby.
Made from iron and brass. Size 4″ inches diameter.
This was used in the mines to measure the efficiency of the ventilation. It was hung in the roadways for a few hours and readings were taken on the volume and air speed. This job was done by ventilation officers who were resident at each colliery.
