Rose Heyworth Colliery Strike Badge 1984-85.
I had the honour of designing this badge along with the colliery closure tie. I was asked by the colliery lodge to come up with a design for the both items and combined the similar theme for the tie and badge. There were only about 450 official badges and ties produced in 1985.
I did however spell the word allegiance wrong and never noticed until the badges were stamped but I honestly thought the manufacturers would have corrected any misspellings before actual manufacture.
Point of interest – Over the past 10 years many re-stamps of these badges have surfaced on online auction sites, they come in three different colour variations, all revolving around the red and black colour though there is one all red with black dragons version. These seem to be later re-stamps yet using the original mould as the misspelling is still being reproduced on them. The badge featured above is the original issue from 1985.
