Wooden Mines Rescue Lamp.
An early wooden cased mines rescue battery powered lamp. 

Made from mahogany wood with a leather strap handle, it has an hinged front (as seen left) to access the battery and the terminals are at the back of the front panel. The lamp is switched to on or off when you twist the front lens housing clock-wise to anti clock-wise. Size 8″ x 4″ x 3″ inches.

 

 

This lamp features one of the very first light bulbs (as seen right), invented by Mr Joseph Swan in the early 1880’s.

(The wooden lamp case has been heavily renovated and repaired).
