The blast air entered the lamp and would power a dynamo which produced a current to light the bulb. When the collieries converted to all electric haulage engines these lamps were replaced with modern electric lamps. In Rose Heyworth Colliery the old blast piston driven engines were still operational in the 1980’s. This lamp was manufactured in 1977.
