The Hand in Hand Society was a form of friendly society at Ebbw Vale and was founded in 1823. The society, inaugurated amongst the iron workers of Ebbw Vale on the 6th of October 1823 provided sickness and death benefits for iron workers. The society issued badges and copper tokens to its members.

Every token I have seen has a very small drill hole at the top rim, this may have been made in manufacture or drilled later to attach it to a chain or watch fob of some sort so as to keep it on your person to produce readily when needed?

The society disbanded in 1913.
