Prichard and Ridings.
Messrs Prichard and Ridings, Botanical Brewers, bottle, Abertillery and Ebbw Vale. It has an internal screw top and has a looped handle at the rear of the bottle.
Made from stoneware. Size 10″ inches x 5 1/2″ inches.
Mr T. H. Prichard joined with Mr F. Ridings as botanical brewers in about 1908. The partnership lasted for just a short while and was dissolved in May 1909. The business was continued by Mr Thomas Henry Prichard in his own name.
Mr T. H. Prichard.
Mr Thomas Henry Prichard, born in 1867 at Abersychan, South Wales, was a chemist who began his business at the Medical Hall, Abertillery in 1892.
The 1901 census shows Mr Thomas Henry Prichard living at the Medical Hall, Somerset Street, Abertillery with his wife Mrs Elizabeth Prichard nee Edwards, born in 1873 at Brynmawr, Brecknock. The couple lived at the chemists shop with their children.
He later added to his business opening chemist shops at Ebbw Vale, Ely, Cwmfelinfach, Merthyr, Blaina and Nantyglo, as well as another shop in Church Street, Abertillery.
Mr Thomas Henry Prichard became a councillor, lived at 14 Roch Street and passed away in November 1935, at this time, the family lived at Oakleigh, Oak Street, Abertillery.
Mr F. Ridings.
Mr Francis Ridings, born in 1867 at Lancashire, England, was a mineral water manufacturer. His wife Mrs Priscilla Ridings nee Rees was born in 1869 at Merthyr, South Wales. The couple married at Merthyr in 1886 and settled in South Wales.
The 1891 census shows Francis and Priscilla Ridings were living at Ystradfodwg, Glamorgan. At this time Mrs Priscilla Ridings was listed as a pop manufacturer.
The 1901 census shows shows Francis and Priscilla Ridings were living at 29 Brackla Street, Oldcastle, Bridgend. At this time Mr Francis Ridings was listed as an aerated water maker.
On the 1911 census Francis and Priscilla Ridings were living at 17 Tillery Street Abertillery
with their children Miss Mary Ann Ridings, daughter, born in 1901 at Merthyr and Master Arthur Ridings, born in 1906 at Hirwaun, Glamorgan. Also living at the address was Mr John Sullivan, a nephew. The couple married at Merthyr in 1886 and settled in South Wales. At this time Francis Ridings had left the partnership with Mr Prichard, yet Francis and Priscilla were both listed as being mineral water manufacturers.
