Miners Battery – Cap Lamp.
Made by Oldham, England.
Made from plastic, stainless steel, and glass.
This lamp still has the keyring and manpower check attached to it. These manpower checks were plain blank brass token with just the miners lamp number stamped into it and was attached to the lamp with the keyring. This scheme was introduced into Rose Heyworth Colliery in the late 1970’s. Suction tubes were installed from the banksmans cabin up and along the headgear across the yard and into the lamproom office. Before you descended the pit the banksman would take your check and send it back to the lamproom to prove you were underground. These new manpower checks did away with the old big brass ones.
