Mr J. Chivers & Sons Cwmtillery – Ale and Porter Bottle.
This is one of a few different design Ale and Porter Bottles produced for the J. Chivers & Sons Brewer Cwmtillery Cwmtylery. Size 7″ x 3″ inches.
This design is a common transfer print on the shoulder and there is also a similar much rarer version with impressed lettering around the shoulder.
The earlier type is of a white coloured dumpy design with a blue transfer print stamp. There is also a larger pint stoneware bottle version and three known glass bottles, half-pint and a pint issue in the design of a Codd Bottle with the marble stopper and a single pinched neck (also known as a Pop-Alley) and also a torpedo bottle. These glass bottles has the design of a fountain embossed into the glass.
The very early glass and stoneware bottles had the spelling Cwmtylery though the later bottles had the spelling of Cwmtillery.
